Beloved Knightstown Basketball Player Dylan Hiner Dies in Crash on IN-38

On May 4, 2017, just before 5 p.m., 17 year-old Dylan Hiner was heading west on IN-38 in a 2012 silver Ford Focus when he drifted across the centerline and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver was 56 year-old Robert T. Gordon, who was operating a 2012 silver Dodge Journey.

An eyewitness claims that Hiner was traveling the speed limit, and Captiain Rob Oleksy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department said there was no apparent sign of Hiner’s vehicle hydroplaning either. Hiner was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson where he would later pass due to injuries sustained from the crash. Gordon refused medical treatment, though he was complaining of minor chest and neck pain. Standard blood tests would be conducted, however police do not suspect impairment was involved.

Hiner was a member of the variety basketball team at Knightstown High School, home to the famous gym depicted in the movie Hoosiers.
