Fishers Misdemeanor Attorneys
You Need Representation
Indiana misdemeanors are crimes that do not carry more than a year in jail as penalties. These are generally nonviolent offenses that did not cause significant harm to a person or society. However, it would be a mistake to think you should not take the charges seriously. Being convicted of a misdemeanor means that your will have a mark on your criminal record. It may be possible to have the misdemeanor expunged later, but this is not guaranteed. So long as it remains on your criminal record, it will appear in background checks for employment, lease agreements, loans, and more.
Massillamany Jeter & Carson LLP has a team of experienced and skilled misdemeanor defense attorneys, lead by Attorney Mario Massillamany, in Fishers. We can help you prepare for upcoming court appearances and fight for the best possible outcome for your case.
Initial consultations are offered at no charge. Call us today at (317) 434-1490.
Indiana Misdemeanor Classifications
Like many other states in the U.S., misdemeanors in Indiana are grouped into three categories. The classification of a misdemeanor charge will determine what penalties a defendant will face if convicted.
- Class C misdemeanor – The least serious form of a misdemeanor, penalties include up to 60 days in jail and a fine of up to $500. DUI is usually classified as a Class C misdemeanor.
- Class B misdemeanor – Drunk and disorderly conduct is often classified as a class B misdemeanor. Penalties include up to 180 days and a fine of up to $1,000.
- Class A misdemeanor – This is the most serious form of misdemeanor. Penalties include up to 1 year in jail and fines of up to $5,000. Criminal trespassing is an example of a Class A misdemeanor.
Not only are these penalties a major inconvenience, but they can also be much harsher if you are a repeat offender. It is always in your best interests to fight misdemeanors with an attorney.
