Kurt Lowery Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Lawrence

At around 6:45 p.m. on April 16th, 2017, Kurt Lowery was heading north on his 1990 Suzuki motorcycle when he approached a red light at the intersection of Pendleton Pike and Mitthoeffer. Lowery failed to stop at the red light and continued through the intersection, causing a collision with a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox that was heading west on Pendleton Pike.

When authorities arrived to the scene, Lowery was determined to have died from impact. No passengers in the Equinox sustained any injuries. Witnesses stated that the light was green for traffic heading in either direction of the Equinox, and the light was red for traffic heading in either direction of the motorcycle. Police say the driver of the Equinox willingly agreed to a sobriety test, despite them not think believing impairment was an issue. The results from the driver’s blood test, which is a common course of action in fatal automobile investigations, are still pending.
