Carmel Police Motorcycle Officer Injured in Accident on Range Line Road

On February 21, 2017, just after 12:00 p.m., Officer Scott Spillman was traveling along a roundabout located off of Range Line Road and Carmel Drive. The 47-year-old Carmel Police Department Officer was riding on a 2015 police-issued Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle when he was suddenly struck by a white 2012 Ford E-350 van. The driver was 32-year-old Louis J. Guzman.

Guzman was driving down the left southbound lane of Range Line Road before entering the roundabout where he made a sudden lane-change, causing the collision with Officer Spillman. While Guzman did not sustain any injuries, Officer Spillman was transported to St. Vincent Hospital off of 86th Street for treatment of a leg/ankle injury.

Louis Guzman was arrested for Operator Never Licensed, a class C misdemeanor, and cited for both an unsafe lane change and driving with an expired license plate.
